Woman shoots husband to death after snatching gun from him Spring, TX - A man is dead after police say his wife shot him in Montgomery County. Theresa May nearly got binned, didn't

Importantly, she said she she won't stand as PM in the next General Election (by 5 May 2022 or earlier, as required!) It makes sense that she bow out over Brexit and toddle off given she's dirtied her copybook over calling the last election (oops) and continues to 'negotiate' Brexit like a busted arse, irrespective of whatever 'outcome' is 'achieved'. But who will the Tories select to run as PM at the next election? Labour's Jerry Corbyn will be aged 73 at the next election or will have succumbed to cancer by then, so Labour will have a new leader either way. May won by 200 votes to 117 which was better than Jerry fared when 172 Labour MPs put forward a motion of no confidence in him with only 40 supporting Corbyn. Here, we let our political parties change Prime Ministers with internal voting margins among themselves as low as five votes, so it's no big deal (Scomo beat Spud Dutton 45-40 in the last Liberal Party cabinet vote to become our latest, shiny new Prime Minister although 25% of voters don't know who he is). Theresa May is proving to be quite the trooper, irregardless of what you think of her or her politics. She might even go up in the polls as her inner-bulldog keeps rising to the fore. In other respects, she's looking very hunched over lately and may be suffering from some lower-back/osteoporosis related condition.

Was it Charles or his poet-brother who said: "How can you govern a country that has 246 varieties of cheese?" Gaullism is a quaint sort of hybrid right-wing populism that included nationalism, xenophobia, anti-communism, nuclear weapons, plus free-market capitalism under the auspices of considerable State regulation and intervention to keep the bastards honest. If Jean-Paul Sartre smoked Gauloises, was that also de Gaulle's cigarette of choice?

Is this for real: Point 1: Give a tax cut to all French people currently paying marginal tax in excess of 25% (the current top marginal French tax rate is 45% and up to 51.92%) Point 2: A 40% increase in the pension paid and other social welfare programs or a 40% increase in coverage among the populace? If you halve the tax rate, how does one pay for a 40% increase in the pension? Point 9: Have they thought Frexit through like the Brexiteers didn't? Point 10: The 'rich' will welcome the new top tax rate of 25%, in some instances halving their personal tax rate. No need to evade anymore. Point 12: Don't wear hi-vis yellow vests unless you want to be seen and recorded on CCTV . . . and take your masks off you cowards. Point 17: Good luck with 'prohibiting planned obsolescence' in the Apple age Point 20: Ban GMOs and monoculture!!!!! Let them eat cake, or starve, especially when imports are stopped. Point 22: Pull out of NATO? But wars of defence are OK, just ban wars of aggression. Point 24 as quoted above: "Immigration: Prevent migratory flows that cannot be accommodated or integrated, given the profound civilizational crisis we are experiencing." In other words shut the borders, stop the boats and caravans and go all xenophobic: France for the French.

France's minimum wage is 9.88 euros an hour (or US$11.19 per hour) which is higher than Germany's but not Luxembourg and Monaco. It's not far off the world's highest minimum wage at US$14.56 an hour (plus add-ons) which is double the 'average' US minimum wage of US$7.25. Providing rebates through the tax system for people on low incomes who have children or other disabilities is far more efficient. No experimental 'universal basic income' trials have borne fruit. France is highly regulated and her people pay for that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minimum_wages_by_country

Wages growth is trending up as demand peaks. Further interest rate rises are on the horizon. Fully overheated, hang on to your hats.

As JohnV0239 said many years ago: "I don't know if cheese-eating surrender monkeys even like cake." France already has the fifth-highest minimum wage in the world plus a reasonable smorgasbord of bloated welfare initiatives. Perhaps they should tackle their 9% unemployment rate and see if they can't find something worthwhile for that lot to do. They shouldn't be paying 40% more for diesel than we do, even before Macca's so-called fuel tax increase. Americans almost get diesel for free at €0.71 a litre compared with France @ €1.44 a litre (diesel is currently €0.97 a litre here or AUD$1.54 or US$1.11 or 275,715 Venezuelan Bolivars And if they were really interested in the environment, they'd ditch diesel for petrol, then petrol for electric. Still, you can't knock their Champers and I sincerely hope the minor troobles in Reims won't affect this year's production.

Macron caved on the proposed fuel tax increase (for now). I fully appreciate that rural peasants are revolting, but what exactly do they want now? The masked protestors doing the damage are a mix of right and left violent nutjobs, aren't they? In Paris last weekend, cops and anti-riot police outnumbered protestors 3 to 1? France has always had sky-high fuel prices as do most EU 'countries', so is it just whining? Perhaps they'd like all like a free slice of gateau with a cherry on top for Chrissy.

Woman shoots ex to death while having a drink at the bar Las Vegas, NV - Police are investigating how an ex-couple arguing in a bar could escalate into the shooting death of a man. The incident occurred when a woman was approached by her ex-boyfriend while she was at a bar in the 3400 block of North Nellis Boulevard at about 1am. An argument ensued and she shot her ex because she thought he was reaching for a weapon, according to police. Lt. Ray Spencer said the man did not have a weapon on him but that detectives consider the shooting a self-defense case and it'll be submitted to prosecutors to review. The woman had an active protective order on her ex-boyfriend, according to authorities, and was not taken into custody. https://www.ktnv.com/news/vegas-pd-woman-shoots-kills-ex-boyfriend-in-possible-self-defense

Woman who said she shot a man in self-defense has charges dropped Jackson, MI - Charges of assault with intent to commit murder and a firearm crime have been dismissed against a woman accused of attempting to kill her boyfriend when she shot him in the chest. Desiree Strother, 29, contended she wounded her boyfriend Michael Bell in self-defense, as he forced open a locked screen door. Jackson County prosecutors' obligation to disprove this was difficult because Michael, who was considered uncooperative and elusive, never testified. Attempts to subpoena him for various hearings were not successful. "It is the (prosecution's) belief that the victim is avoiding service and has moved to the Detroit area," reads a motion filed by Assistant Prosecutor Katie Hawkins. Circuit Judge Susan Jordan signed a document dropping the case without prejudice, which means it could be re-filed at a later date. The prosecution noted Desiree had a "wonderful background," with no convictions of any kind. She was a criminal justice student at college and had legally purchased the firearm, which was properly registered. However, the prosecution pointed to differing statements and stories Desiree gave police, conceding she was initially untruthful. She said there had been a drive-by shooting, but it appeared Michael was shot at close range with the wound facing away from the street, police reported. Her father denied having talked by phone to her on the night of the shooting or in the three weeks preceding it, the prosecutor’s response states, and police found no proof of a call from Desiree in an examination of phone records. Officers had been called to previous domestic incidents between the two, including one four days before the shooting. The prosecution did not disagree there were previous concerns, including a recent 911 call made by Desiree who asked for help before an abrupt disconnection. The dispatcher noted Michael was believed to have taken the phone from her. Michael said he and Desiree were often in physical fights and both were aggressive, according to a police report. She had stabbed him twice but he did not seek medical treatment and did not report the incidents because he did not want her to get into trouble, the document states. At the hospital, Michael told police he didn't think Desiree meant to hurt him and he did not think she belonged in jail, police reported. In the prosecutor’s motion, Michael said he did not recall a physical dispute the night of the shooting, but said they had assaulted each other a few nights prior. https://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2018/06/charges_dismissed_against_woma.html
