  1. Since more and more Trump Administration officials are getting into hot water because of Russia, I'd thought it was time to have an all-encompassing thread. So far National Security Adviser Mike Flynn has resigned because he talked with the Russian ambassador about lifting sanctions against his country. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/13/politics/michael-flynn-white-house-national-security-adviser/ Now Attorney General Jeff Sessions is having his own Russian problem. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/03/attorney-general-jeff-sessions-disclose-russia-contacts-report-170302041900080.html The Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is buddies with Vladimir Putin. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2017/01/tillerson-confirmation-senate-mccain-graham-exxonmobil-russia-putin/512750/ And that's not to mention Donald Trump's flirtations with Vladimir Putin. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/05/donald-trump-repeats-his-respect-for-killer-vladimir-putin It's time to grab some popcorn because this could get very interesting.

    Bombing in St Petersburg

It's just popping up across Twitter now. Expect the news will pick it up soon. Not that Russia doesn't have enemies but this sort of thing has tended to happen when Vlad wants to get his war on, so expect something big to happen.

    Degeneracy of the "left"

  4. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/chechnya-gay-men-concentration-camps-torture-detain-nazi-ramzan-kadyrov-chechen-russia-region-a7677901.html Well this was entirely predictable. Putin decides to attack gay people in Russia as a scapegoat and soon enough one of his pet droogs takes it upon himself to start a pogrom against them. It'll be hard to get entirely accurate information about this story I would think, Chechnya is very much the shithole of a much larger shithole, but there's little reason to doubt that it is happening because this is precisely the kind of thing that happens when a leader like Putin declares a group of people to be public enemies. The guys running Chechnya are little more than warlords, trying to get the bossman's attention. I'm not sure Putin will be too pleased to be getting this kind of attention though.
  5. I debated whether to put this as part of the other thread on the Trump Administration and Russians but I decided to do a separate thread mainly because Donald Trump's name hasn't been mentioned anywhere in this link—yet. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/mar/20/british-banks-handled-vast-sums-of-laundered-russian-money
  6. This article seems to imply that Russia was involved in last year's Brexit vote. http://www.businessinsider.com/labour-mp-ben-bradshaw-suspicious-russian-interference-brexit-2017-2
  7. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/us/politics/russia-intelligence-communications-trump.html Posted this on the other thread but it deserves its own. This could be it. If they can prove, as it looks like they have, that Trump colluded with an enemy government to win the election not only is he completely fucked but he's possibly looking at criminal charges. Rather big ones.
  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-30025138 The invasion that dare not speak its name just had its name spoken. At least a proper military on the ground one way or the other might speed this to a conclusion.
  9. https://medium.com/war-is-boring/natos-new-rapid-reaction-force-is-make-believe-b79df44c126d Interesting article about just how shit NATO is in the face of an actual threat.

    RIP the global free market

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/aug/31/russia-economic-warfare-rip-free-market-new-world-order?CMP=twt_gu Worth a read, a powerful summary of where we hit the skids in a post Cold War world. Am quoting the conclusion, not the start. Read it, innit. The premise seems to be that, as on so many occasions, the war was won and the peace was squandered. In this case, the global free market done dropped the ball and now we're in a real pickle.
