The All-Purpose Trump Administration and the Russians Thread

Recommended Posts

No, these people use go-betweens all the time to isolate themselves from certain illegal activities and maintain plausible deniability. That's why loyalty matters to them so much, because the system of legally isolating themselves only works when those lower down in the hierarchy don't snitch.

There is nothing illegal in wanting to find out what dirt a journalist or publication has on your opponent and needing to ask shows you don't already know.

That's not the situation. The situation is that Trump publicly requested that the Russians hack Clinton's emails, which they did and then released them via Wikileaks. Coordination between the Trump campaign and this operation would be illegal. If Trump knew about this operation and lied about it, it would be impeachable.

False chronolgy, Trump joked about the Russians hacking her emails after the DNC had already said they'd been hacked. It was also clear the joke was referring to the Benghazi email scandal where Clinton had been accused of deleating emails, hearings on that matter were then recent.

The hacks started in 2015, according to Crowdstrike, who reported their findings in May 2016, Trump's joke was on 27th July.

No, the DNC hack was one incident. On the day Trump made that comment, Russian hackers began to direct spearphish attacks at the domain used by Clinton to host her private email server. It's in Mueller's indictment of the 12 GRU officers. It's old news.

But yes, the first Wikileaks release came before Trump's request. The request didn't come at the beginning of the entire operation. But if Mueller can show that Trump knew all this was going on and that he really was directly addressing the Russian intelligence operatives that were working on it, he is so fucked.

Besides the fact the Trump team contacted Stone to ask what Wikileaks had shows they knew nothing about it and didn't have any better contact with Wikileaks than a bullshitter like Stone.

It means they wanted someone to check the goods they were getting from the Russians through Wikileaks.  Just because they were colluding with the Russians doesn't mean they trusted the Russians.

But you're quite right, I don't really give a shit if we get Trump on Russia, election fraud or tax evasion.  The goal is to get him.  And we've already netted some pretty big fish who were caught lying about Russia.  The big question in my mind re. Russia is--- Why would they lie if there was no collusion?

It's plausible that Trump would just lie compulsively because that's what he does, but so many of these guys have lied to the FBI, lied to Congress, and lied to Mueller even when they've made a plea deal and promised to cooperate. There has to be a major reason why.

Esp. since some of them had perfectly reasonable reasons why they would have been making those contacts.  Something was scaring them.

There have been four new sealed filings in Mueller's district in the past few days. They are all related to indictments this time. They may represent four indictments, or fewer than that plus some supporting documents, or they may be related to a completely different case.

ETA: Mueller normally indicts on a Friday, hence people speculating now about these filings.

Then why are so many in serious legal trouble for LYING about it?

It's now been confirmed that the secret subpoena battle that's been going on with a foreign state owned company IS part of the Mueller investigation.

Evidence for it being the Qatar Investment Authority, in relation to its role in the sale of 19% of Rosneft, the proceeds of which may have been paid to the Trumps, is strengthening. We'll find out the truth about this eventually.

"Joke" my ass.  His campaign had already met with the Russians in secret in hopes of securing the emails.  Multiple times according to Trump's own lawyer.  And here you are ONCE FUCKING AGAIN trying to defend Trump even as you criticize his attempted coup in Venezuela.  You're a shitstain on activism BF.  Deeply corrupt, twisted and compromised.  And ultimately completely useless for any purpose.

Now we're told that if we keep investigating Trump, he's going to crash the economy and stall legislation.  Maybe start a war too.

It was a vile spectacle.  There's nothing to chant about and little left worth saving in this country.

Take out the 'no investigations', immigration and abortion parts, and it wasn't a bad speech.  The approval ratings bear this out.

He was on his message, I'll give him that.  But his message bore no resemblance to reality.  This didn't start with Donnie, of course.  The State of the Union has been shit for a long time now, and not one of them has the balls to admit it.  We're at a new low with this turd, though.  The country is intractably divided, and he's made his political career prying us further apart. Even his attempt at a non-partisan message was undone when he made it all contingent on giving up the investigations.  And the revenge for that matter.  Fuck him.  I curse his eyes, his liver, his brain and his heart.

The reasonably large contingent of white-jacketed wimmin dems did that standing ovation thing at the SOTU, which a commentator described as simply adorable.

Quote
"No one has benefited more from our thriving economy than women, who have filled 58% of the newly created jobs last year," Trump said.

Several female lawmakers -- many
dressed in the white of the Suffragettes as a symbol of solidarity -- began to stand up and applaud, including Democratic freshmen Reps. Elissa Slotkin, Chrissy Houlahan, Mary Gay Scanlon and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"You weren't supposed to do that," Trump joked, as Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib smiled and clapped.

"All Americans can be proud that we have more women in the workforce than ever before," Trump said to more bipartisan applause.

Trump also directly addressed the record-breaking number of women, mostly Democrats, who were elected in November's midterm election.

"Don't sit yet, you're going to like this:  and exactly one century after Congress passed the constitutional amendment giving women the right to vote, we also have more women serving in Congress than at any time before," pointing and smiling at the large group of female Democratic representatives, high-fiving each other and soon breaking into that awful chant of "U-S-A  U-S-A!"

Meanwhile in Brazil, domestic violence advocate Ana Paula da Silvae (aka Deputada Paulinha) takes the Santa Caterina Legislative Assembly by storm at her inaugeration, cementing herself as the darling of Brazilian politics:

I keep meaning to post this. Buzzfeed created a timeline that shows Trump's public statements about Putin and his dealings with Russia interspersed with the emails, plans, draft letters of intent, etc that were going on behind the scenes regarding the Moscow Project.

A judge has ruled that Manafort intentionally lied to the social prosecutor (he wasn't just being forgetful), which means his plea deal is officially kaput and he may spend the rest of his life in jail.

https://www.npr.org/2019/02/13/694565971/manafort-intentionally-lied-to-special-counsel-judge-says

We may be able to expect a superseding indictment that lays out more of what Mueller knows about Manafort.

Why so eager to end your pain?  We've only just begun.  The House committees are now free to launch their investigations.  We'll have Trump's taxes and financials.
